| platform | local actions | Part I: closed workshops On the basis of different themes, like the use of public space, free access to the internet, mobile habitats, urban and spatial development, cycling in the city or even health care, the visitors are allocated to small groups. Hosted by locals from Brussels in their own home or workspace, these groups give their opinion on questions relating to their work, but through their host also get an opportunity to taste a bit of Brussels. A reflection/action workshop. Part II: pooling The evening welcomes all participants along with movers and shakers and decision makers to the nerve centre on the Chaussee de Waterloo to cross fertilise, exchange experiences and forge lasting alliances. |
The symbol of the Urban Platform is a recycled motorway streetlight mounted on a desk chair leg. It symbolises both the recycling and DIY aspect of our work, but also touches upon a larger story. In economy, the streetlight is often used to symbolise public goods: these are goods no one can be excluded from, and which can not be used up by one consumer, which makes them useless for the free market. The initiatives we take also create such public goods. |
